Gabled

Gable is getting there. It's not completely finished yet, there still needs to be some flashing on the edges, but you are able to get a sense of what it will look like now.

Tomorrow the plasterers are back to do the sanding.

Roof - Part 2

Today we saw more work done on our roof. The ceiling insulation was put in, along with under the eaves being completed.

The gable has been sealed up awaiting the external boards to be done tomorrow.

Plastering is still ongoing today and is looking really good. We also saw the electrician Chris who began installing powerpoints and lighting. Twas a big day actually :)

Floor boards have been sourced, and with a bit of luck may even get installed THIS week!!

Plastering - Part 2

Fortunately today the plastering looks a whole lot better. We were a bit concerned about it yesterday. Con assured me it will look great when it's finished. The chips and knocks I saw yesterday will be gone tomorrow. And in deed they are.

Con had the plasterers put extra metal corners on the edges where the roof meets the walls just to ensure it will look A1 when it's finished.

Charlie and I headed down to the local pool this afternoon, mostly to keep out of everyones way. But it was nice to keep cool on this hot summers day.

Ensuite - Recessed Shaving Cabinet

Today George has been tweaking the stud wall in the ensuite to accommodate my shaving cabinet. We are really pleased with how things are coming together.

Both George and Con are real thinkers (George is Con's younger brother). While Con is a meticulous project manager who gets up around 4.30am each morning and starts planning his day. George is a master craftsman. Both have been building for around 40 years. And there is very little they haven't both done in that time.

I have found George to be fastidious about quality, he is not about merely doing what you ask of him. He is always contributing ideas and processes that I believe add value to this project. He takes the time needed to get things 100% the first time, and will always speak up if he feels another way would look or function better.

We couldn't imagine trusting anyone else to do our build.

Plastering - Part 1

The plasterers arrived this morning with an initial team of 4 (although 2 have since disappeared once the plaster was carried inside). They are incredibly fast and productive.

Evil dust!

I thought I was going to love renovating, and for the most part I do! I love having Con and George around the place always keen to tell you a story or give you some good parenting advise.

I have accepted that my garden (particularly the back garden) will probably take another 12 months to fully recover. Actually it's been a good opportunity to rethink what is working and what isn't. But the thing I hate, the thing that drives me nuts, the thing that has turned me into the menacing witch from hell, is THE DUST!

It is everywhere, and I mean everywhere. Vacuuming and mopping merely take it down a couple of millimetres. Somehow, upon waking in the morning it has bred overnight like a rampant fungus ready to do battle with me again.

I'm sure my beloved vacuum 'Henry' is going to croak sooner than intended by the manufacturer because of this evil 'son of satan' dust (twitch, twitch). Die Dust Die!

Now where is that mop!

Family room entry

As our kitchen appliances are going to be built-in we requested a stud wall be built enabling them to be recessed into it. Also we thought it would be good to (at a later date when we can afford it) get some built-in cabinetry where we could place a TV and/or bookshelves.

George and Con working out the best way to do this.

Kitchen appliances will be built into the right, and a wall unit for the tv or whatever else to the left.

The end result is more of an entrance foyer into/out of the family room.
